The 23-second video attached to the post, recorded from a moving vehicle, shows several tractor-trailers stopped along the right shoulder of a multilane highway. Uptown Informer could not confirm from the video where it was recorded, which agencies were involved or why the trucks were stopped.
No official word yet
As of 9:45 a.m., Uptown Informer had found no news reports about the stops. None of the posts from the X accounts of the N.C. State Highway Patrol, NCDOT’s Charlotte-area office or SCDOT since Tuesday mentioned them. A search of X turned up no other posts about trucks stopped on I-77 in Fort Mill Thursday.
Truck enforcement on I-77
S.C. State Transport Police periodically run enforcement operations targeting commercial vehicles on the state’s interstates, including I-77.
Earlier this month, the agency’s Operation Safe DRIVE ran Oct. 6 through Oct. 8 on I-20, I-77 and I-85, WIS reported. Fort Mill-area coverage of the operation appeared in the Fort Mill-Tega Cay Times.
According to the S.C. Department of Public Safety, Safe DRIVE officers focus on commercial vehicles, monitoring driver behavior and checking compliance with federal regulations. The enforcement is carried out “in partnership with other local, state and federal agencies along shared corridors.” The department says it issues media advisories and press releases ahead of those initiatives. Uptown Informer did not find news coverage of an announced operation this week.
Uptown Informer has not confirmed whether Thursday’s stops were part of a planned inspection operation.
