The Charlotte Hornets’ ownership is buying up real estate a few blocks from Spectrum Center.
Hornets Basketball Holdings LLC, the team’s ownership and management entity, paid $20.5 million for two Uptown office buildings at 301 S. Brevard St., according to the Charlotte Business Journal, which cited Mecklenburg County real estate records.
The site covers 1.89 acres and includes a building that once housed the Brooklyn McCrorey YMCA, which received historic designation in 2021, the Business Journal reports.
What the team plans to do with the buildings is still unclear, according to the Business Journal. We’ll update this story when the Hornets or their ownership group share plans.
The purchase comes during a busy stretch for the franchise. The team signed Brandon Miller to a long-term extension this month, and its arena neighborhood is drawing renewed attention as Mecklenburg County weighs a new plan for nearby Brooklyn Village (see our related story).
