Uptown Informer (uptowninformer.com) is an independent local news and events guide for greater Charlotte, NC, run by Tyler (Ty) Davidson. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what choices you have. We keep it simple: we collect as little as we can, and we don’t sell your information.
Information you send us
If you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, the topic you pick and your message. The form runs on WPForms Lite. Your message is emailed to uptowninformer@gmail.com, sent through Gmail using the WP Mail SMTP plugin. We use what you send only to read and reply to your message, such as a news tip, event submission or question. We don’t sell or rent contact form entries, and we don’t add you to any mailing list.
If you email us directly, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted on GoDaddy Managed WordPress. Like most web hosts, GoDaddy keeps standard server logs, which include your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. These logs help keep the site running and secure. GoDaddy may also set cookies for security or caching. GoDaddy handles this data under its own privacy policy.
Cookies
The site itself doesn’t use advertising or tracking cookies. WordPress sets cookies only in these cases:
- Site administrators who log in get login cookies.
- Commenters: if comments are open on a story and you leave one, WordPress may save your name, email and website in a cookie (only if you choose that option) so you don’t have to type them again. Your comment, name, email, IP address and browser information are stored with the comment.
Our host may also set security or caching cookies as described above.
Analytics and advertising
We use Google Search Console to see how the site shows up in Google search results, such as which searches lead to our pages. It reports totals and doesn’t track individual visitors on our site.
We don’t use Google Analytics, any other analytics service, or ad tracking at this time. If that changes, we’ll update this policy first.
Fonts
Our fonts (Fraunces, Inter and Montserrat) are stored on our own server, so loading them doesn’t send your information to Google or any other font service.
Embedded content and links
Stories may include content embedded from other sites, such as videos, maps or social media posts. Embedded content behaves the same as if you visited that site directly. That site may collect data about you, use cookies and track how you interact with the content.
We also link to sources, event pages and other websites, and story pages have share links for X and Facebook. Once you click through to another site, its own privacy policy applies.
Photos
Many photos come from Wikimedia Commons and are used under their stated licenses, with credits on each story.
Children
Uptown Informer is a general-audience site and isn’t aimed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has sent us information, email us and we’ll delete it.
How long we keep information
We keep contact form messages and emails as long as we need them to respond and follow up, and then we delete them. Comments, if any, stay with the story unless you ask us to remove them.
Your choices
You can email uptowninformer@gmail.com to ask what information we have about you, or to ask us to correct or delete it. We’ll reply as soon as we reasonably can.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the site changes, for example if we add a new service. When we do, we’ll post the new version here and change the effective date above.
